I am designing a permanent layout and want to have the least amount of power wires running from the track power terminal strip. I would be running it with DCS in command mode. I have 2 lines and want to keep each line on each handle of the Z4000. and I would have 2 short block sections on each line.

Here is my layout diagram, please let me know if this is ok, or if I need more power line from terminal strip to the track.

You should probably move this to the DCS section.

Basically you want no more than 10-12 track sections to a power feed, so as to minimize voltage sag caused by track joints.

With this in mind, you should add a couple of feeds to each of the loops around the top (or back) of your track plan. 16 ga wire should be fine for all track power feeds, and 14 ga for wiring from trans to TIU, and TIU to distribution blocks.

Your plan looks like about 150-200 feet of track max, so using both fixed TIU channels as you have planned should work just fine.

You should power the TIU using the aux power input.

The 14 volt output from the Z-4000 is perfect for this. (The black connection to the Z-4000 needs to connect to the center pin of the aux power plug.)

The TIU includes TVS's, but its still a good idea to add these to the transformer outputs.

Also suggest you consider adding toggle switches to isolate power to your sidings, so they can be shut off when not in use.
