Pretty neat idea.

Nice and simple.

Isn't there some procedure to set the max speed for a tmcc engine? Does it extend to the LionChief?

I realize that many of us use fixed voltage power for our Legacy/TMCC/LionChief layouts.  In that case you will need something like the physical limiter Al created.

For those of us with variable voltage, you can drop the power to the layout, or the line the child is running on. The max speed is then the max the transformer is set at. I have found this to work well with my 2 year old.

American ingenuity.  Do we need dimensions on the larger piece of wood?

Anything we can do to involve the younger crowd desires high praise.

I use an AC variable transformer to supply power to one postwar ZW for my grandson.  I adjust the transformer with a knob to reduce the power to the ZW as needed to keep each particular engine on the track for him. 

The ZW my grandson uses only has two speeds for him, OFF and ALL (all she's got).

That way he gets to operate the same xfmrs I use and his trains do not leave the track.

Al's stop guard is useful even if you limit the track voltage. Other users at shows have reported that the children continue to muscle the dial and break the internal stops.

One used a fixed mounting to the layout fascia with stops. This solved the dropping and over-turning problem.
