All,

I'm building a ceiling shelf layout to run Proto 1 engines conventionally.  The Phase 1 plan is the run around the room, approximately 80 feet of track.  Phase 2 will have a crossover of some kind so that I can reverse the trains, I anticipate another twenty feet of track and 4 to 6 turnouts.  The big question is: can one side of an MTH Z4000 power Phase 1?  How about Phase 2?

The table top layout is DCS for my Proto 2 engines and is 16' by 16' with a small island in the middle and is essentially two loops, inside outside with ten turnouts.  It will be broken into four power blocks.  I'll use an additional Z4000 with both sides to operate this layout.

Thanks,

Davin

Yep, Dale is right, just make sure that the transformer has the capacity to run what you want it to, then make sure your Buss wires feeding it are heavy enough, and that you have enough power drops to the buss. Use plenty of drops, you only have to put them in  once, and when laying track is the time to do it, rather than trying to add them later. You wont likely regret putting in more than you might think you need, but you will regret it if you don't have enough.
