I understand the TIU has a Jack to accept power independently. I plan to use a old Z500 brick to feed the TIU.

If I have a second brick (From a Z500, Z750 or even a Z1000) I should place it onto one of the 4 channels on the side of the TIU. Probably the Fixed 1-in because I plan to call up the engine on the Remote (Tethered to TIU) and run it.

Is it possible to take this further and just slap 4 Z bricks on all of the side inputs on the TIU?

Should I attempt to follow up with the yard switcher off the Remote and drive the Mainline with the Z500/750/1000 transformer?

My goal is to eliminate the expense of the Z4000 if I can.

Barry's DCS book is awesome and I continue to study it. However I am in a learning curve as it relates to my own railroad yard and main loop.

Lee,

You can use any MTH-approved transformers of amperage sufficient to power your tracks, as input to each of the 4 TIU channels. However, be aware that, in order for the TIU to function, it requires power for itself. This power can come from only one of two places.

The first is the TIU's Aux. Power port and the second is Fixed Channel #1 input. If at least one of these power sources are not present, none of the TIU channels will function properly.

Yes to powering the TIU from the AUX port with the z-500 brick.

Yes, MTH makes and adapter plug so you can plug your Z-750 or 1000 bricks into the inputs side.  These are 4 independent outputs.  So it is not like you plug in 4 100W inputs and then get 400 watts out one of the outputs.  Each output will be separate.  G

I was doing some experimentation and feel very, very stupid.

I am very embarrassed to even ask this question. How does the durn jacks go into the black and red screws that have a hole in the middle to receive them?!

I appreciate the responses, I am trying to keep things simple without "Over engineering" it as I have a habit of doing.

You need an MTH Barrel Jack Adapter cable, part 50-1017. You can find it on MTH's web site by clicking the link below.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
