With the help of several other museum volunteers, I have set up this large display layout in the main exhibit hall of The Reading Railroad Heritage Museum in Hamburg, PA.
It features up to 8 trains running at a time, on a roughly 14' x 26' 3-level platform.
The idea was to show various eras from Standard Gauge (top level), Pre-War O (mid level), Post-War and Modern / 3-rail Scale (main level).
The tracks I used include Gar-Graves & Ross, Lionel FasTrack, Atlas-O, Lionel Super-O, K-Line Super-K, Lionel O tubular of various radius, and Standard Gauge.
Not super-scenic'd, the idea is to give visitors a look at what is (and was) available over the years, and some examples of what they can do at home.
The layout will be up until early February 2013. The Museum is all-volunteer, and open on weekends, Saturdays 10am to 4pm, Sundays Noon to 4. Located on South Third Street in Hamburg, just minutes from I-78, and about 10 minutes from Roadside America.
Come and enjoy the ROAR of 8 trains running! Mention the OGR Forum! Thanks.
Above photo, Top- two 1920's vintage Standard Gauge loops.
Mid-level, on the hill- 20's vintage tinplate freight powered by MTH repro loco, reverse loop at each end with 1920's #011 switch at the bottom and #022 at the top, on the flat loop a vintage #262E Gunmetal with blue & silver coaches.
Bottom/main level- postwar SantaFe A-B-A pulling a mixed freight on Super-O with reverse loops, Atlas-O track loop hosts The Reading Crusader, Lionel Fastrack O-72 loop with SGL Lines Reading G-3 & The Wall Street passenger train, Gar-Graves O-80 & 88 outer-most loop with 3-rail scale freight train pulled by various ''visiting'' engines.
Lower photo- Reading trains are featured, but not exclusive on the display. MTH Reading T-1 2124 takes turns with Lionel's Reading T-1 on the freight, along with Lionel JLC Norfolk & Western Y-6-B, and other guest engines. The G-3 is passing, and a K-Line Crusader is approaching. Occasionally, the Polar Express takes a few turns, especially if kids are watching.
Two MTH Z-4000's, two Lionel TW's, and one Lionel Z provide the power.
