Hi Everyone,

I am working on some new flatcars and military loads and I am curious which military flatcar markings everyone prefers? Do you prefer (A) or (B) in the photo below, or is there an alternate that you would like to see made.

We would like to produce the most desired flatcar (majority rules ).

Military Flatcars

Just so we don't wonder off topic too far, let's keep the focus of this discussion on the military flatcar.

Thank you,

I like ARMY too - but does that mean we wont ever see any NAVY flats?

I have both the LIONEL NAVY and COAST GAURD Switchers - so, the designation "Military" seems too generic.

Im sure some guys would like to have whatever branch they represent.

Roving Sign,

Without divulging too much information, I will let you in on a secret.

There is a very good chance you will see a Navy flatcar within the next few months, if not more than one.

Awhile ago, I made a suggestion that some military flatcars carrying more modern pieces have DODX reporting marks, as all the photos of examples of USAX reporting marks I could find were rather ancient museum pieces. The cars in the photos look to be carrying WWII era equipment, so I'd probably lean toward "B"

But I'd defer to the more knowledgeable members on the subject as I'm not quite certain when DODX took over or was phased in. I imagine which one would be more plausible depends on what equipment is being carried. (though I'd lean toward DODX at least on flatcars with roller-bearing trucks).  Anyone have any better info regarding this?

How about simply other branches besides Army? The Navy and the USMC both have or had their own rolling stock too. There was even a caboose assigned to 29 stumps in the early 90's that was painted desert camo, just like the UP SD40-2 of the time.

I'm with you Sam, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of the USMC Caboose would you? Was there in 84!

FYI  Note nothing should be labeled U.S.A.F before its separation from the ARMy 1948 I think maybe 1947
