Hi Mark, The Menards Train Guy:  This Air Force Car is very cool, I will look for it at my local MENARDS, Livonia, Michigan. I was just there yesterday.

Trainroomgary,

Just a heads up, we don't plan to send these to our stores for sale this year. However, I'm sure you are aware they can be shipped to the store for free.

Hey Mark, My wife and I are making a1300 mile drive to Dickenson, ND. in April. 2 reasons, My wifes parents live there and its the nearest Menards to Seattle. LOL  What are the chances there might be some silver and Black BN coal cars by then?

Mike,

Those sound like two good reasons to visit Dickinson! Plus, you'll get a chance to cash in on some rebate checks while you're there.

Unfortunately, no new items will be arriving at our stores until next Christmas (October). However, the releases will keep coming online!

He could order and select store pickup and save shipping. How long will a store retain a pickup, or in other words, how precise does he have to be with his pre trip order timing.

Wow. That's very nice. Everyone always tries to guess what you folks at Menards will come up with next. I haven't seen one guess for an ISO bulktainer, so that is a surprise.

I wonder if this is just a one-off production item or will we see more bulktainers with differing paint schemes? The only reason I wonder is that we haven't seen anymore caboose offerings, though there have been quite a few suggestions for military cabooses.

You folks at Menards know what is and what isn't selling as far as your train product line. Maybe the caboose wasn't selling as well. The same goes for the "scale versus traditional" products. As far as brand new product offerings, the traditional items have lagged behind at Lionel. One could speculate that they aren't selling for Lionel, but I would suspect that has a lot more to do with the list prices, which are nearly identical with the scale products.

I understand higher prices for the scale items: Higher R&D costs, more time in assembly and smaller production runs, so it takes longer to accrue the initial investment. But when a traditional car costs nearly the same (or sometimes more) as a scale car, that I simply don't understand. I want to buy a traditional train car, not subsidize the R&D, assembly and tooling costs for scale products.

So I applaud Menards for holding the line on prices and trying to satisfy an ever increasingly hard market to please. My vote is for more traditionally sized products, but ultimately your sales figures and profit margins will dictate that direction.

The item(s) must be picked up no later than 14 days from when they arrive at the store.

So...say order a week ahead of traveling, it should be there by one week with two weeks to spare.

If these containers fit the current intermodal well cars........how about a 4 pack of plain silver containers.......I'd LOVE to have some to load in my cars.......Mark??

Do you have the tank container measurements???

AMCDAVE... Who makes that intermodal well car?

That is one of about half a dozen cars I am building myself. Not 100% correct for any real car....but designed so I could cut them on a laser machine and assemble easily.  I painted them in FURX as I worked for First Union for many years. thxTHRALLWELL2

AMCDave,

I really like the plain silver container idea!

The tank containers measure 4-3/4" long x 2" wide x  2-1/16" high.

Cjack, sounds like a plan! Mark, will there be any train stuff on display do you know?

Mike,

There will be some stock in the store, but it is hard to predict how much will be left come April. That time of year, train stuff is usually placed in the mezzanine along with other seasonal items. It's still accessible but you may have to ask a Menards Team Member to help you find it.

As you know, the rebate check is not usable for purchases made online. However, I was reminded of another option you may find useful. If you visit the hardware desk, you can special order any of the train items from our website and have them shipped to your home. The benefit of doing this is you can use your rebate checks to pay for your special order. Shipping will be a little extra but you can put the rebate check towards the purchase. And, you are guaranteed to get the item you are looking for!

I hope this helps!

The car and the Sale is nice, but if a person orders 12 different cars from the website, Is he stuck with 12 of the same free item.? Might be better to have a few of the free items listed so that sale would encourage  multiple purchases. Not to mention clearing overstocked items. Larry S

Larry S,

We will do our best to send out a variety of "mystery" items. You may get duplicate items and you may not. Therein lies the mystery!
