Anyone have any info on this board that is inside the 50-1013 IR remote lock-on?

50-1013

My 4 year old son loves the IR remote because it is so simple. We had a derailment the other day including a brief short which popped the circuit breaker on the Z750 brick we use to power it. I reset everything and now the voltage from the brick seems to be passing right through the lock-on and the train runs at max speed. There is no response to button presses on the remote and the little green light on the lock-on remains off. There is no visible evidence on the board of a specific component failure. I was considering replacing the MOSFETs since the brick voltage seems to be passing right through them. With power off, they do not measure shorted. I hope the little microcontroller did not take a hit. The AC seems to be isolated from the DC to protect the little brain box but the fact that the light does not come on scares me a bit.

I want to like MTH products because they are nice when they are working, but it seems every MTH product I own has trouble trouble with electronics at some point. I have had TIU issues, an HO PS3 diesel board that overheats, and now this. All in the past few months. Are MTH electronics just designed particularly weak?

If your having track shorts for any reason the voltage spike created from the short will take out electronic components especially sound amplifier in the engine's and voltage controlling fet's or triac that control the track voltage! It's not the fault of electronic components failed from the track short or derailment!

p.s. try to prevent any kind of shorts to your train equipment!
