GGG - this is a Premier Gas Turbine cab #5 with Proto-Sound 1 (1995 or 1996)

I am using a classic Lionel ZW from 1948 in clean restored working condition. Voltage never went below 6.5 volts which is never a problem for other PS1 engines.

Upon further analysis I've found that the A unit works perfectly fine at extremely low voltage, even below 6.5 volts, when disconnected from the B unit. But, when connected to the B unit, it can hardly run at low prototypical speeds below 10.5 volts for very long before it cuts out, stops dead, and goes back to reset.

I've tried new fully charged batteries and multiple BCRs that all work. It most be board related any thoughts?

The B unit has a slave board (DCRU) which is similar but a little different then the PS-1 bottom board.  Additionally this engine will have a larger load than a normal 1 motor steam, or 2 motor diesel.  At 6.5V trying to provide 3 to 4 plus amps to drive all the lights, smoke and sounds, 4 motor is probably drooping Voltage much more than 6.5V.  Do you have an actual AC Volt meter on the track?

I would also say why try to run at this low voltage? It is not a switcher.

It would be like putting a car in 4th gear up a hill and trying to idle up the hill.  G

We'll let me put it to you this way - the goal is NOT to starve the train of voltage. I was just giving you a reference based on the ZW notches. I have a DL-109/110 A-B set that work in a similar fashion. Both units powers with master/slave from 1999z This set works smoothly with no dropout into reset ever, no matter what the footage is.

i have no comfirmed that this symptom takes places even all the way up to 11.5 volts of steady running, and that's not even prototypical low speed anymore, that's haulin' ***....and boom, still drops out. Check out my video. This is not normal..:

I noticed the reset bell sound is there, but no loco/turbine sounds, just a buzz sound. Also no air release sounds except at the first start up. Does the sound work when not connected to the turbine unit? Is both motors operating in the turbine unit? Looks like the the set is really drawing a lot of power when trying to run. Is the powered A unit dragging the turbine unit? Take the cab off the B unit to verify both the motors are operating when it runs for a short distance.

The turbine sound volume was turned down by me via reset 6 because I wanted to hear the buzz and anything that may be going awry with the board.

It's odd - when I run the A unit alone, no problem, at stall voltage the two motors just try to move but don't. It's just like a normal engine. No buzz. No loss of direction. No falling into reset. But when the B unit is hooked up, what you see and hear in the video is what happens. I just don't know where the dilemma lies.

i have verified that all 4 motors are working correctly.
