Not sure how to install or what speaker to buy with same 16 ohm 5volt rating I've checked past posts I purchased 2" from Parts Express as GGG suggested Sound is great wire tied to engine replacing my flaking orig. Starr Mth speaker Fuel tank housing not large enough even if ground or milled out Barry suggested Mth bf0000033 but website picture shows that as 50mm or 2" which would not work either. I always dislike modifying anything Anyone else no of 1 3/4" 16 ohm 5volt speaker that might work. Thanks

I have 45mm dia flat speaker that is 16 ohms. Probably the best you can do as 16 ohm are harder to come by now a days. G
I have replaced several speakers like yours shown. I use a dremel tool with a cut off disc and cut off opposite sides even and it slides into the fuel tank.
Here's a couple of 40mm 16 ohm speakers at Mouser: https://www.mouser.com/Electro...y7x5Z1z0z2p7Z1z0j88q
But are those speakers only rated at a 1/4 watt? Won't they blow out almost immediately?
No, but they may in time. Depends on the Engine SF. The .25W was what was first use. You also have to worry about freq response. Also, he needs 45mm not 40mm, though smaller takes less work to install.
Unfortunately, those speaker that where high watt, and small size where never adequately remanufactured in 16 ohm. The 5V R2 Premier uses it also. Luckily there are 4 ohm alternatives for 3V and upgrade repairs. G
I have lots of different sizes in 4 ohms, but as George says, slim pickings in 16 ohms.
Thanks GGG and Chuck Sartor for your information I've just finished installing Parts Express speaker after cutting off sides with Dremel Don't think its going to work well though had to cutaway to much frame to edge of cone I glued edge And will let set overnight before trying. Brand of speaker might have been larger than what you where using Chuck Sending some pictures Should know tomorrow and let you know how it worked Thanks

My attempt to cut down speaker and install did not work for now power outage
Contact me if you need one of the Flat speakers I have. G
Thanks G for reply but now I have more than speaker problem when I started up engine, buzzed and 2 other engine's on layout started up .I shut down quickly removed speaker with orig., I reset engine but all sounds are gone Engine still runs fine in both DCS and conventional ,I'm Thinking I most likely shorted sound board do you think speaker magnet touching mounting screw as pictured may have caused this and would this engine be worth ps3 upgrade or should I be satisfied to run it quietly. Thanks Chuck

If the speaker wires or terminal touch chassis that will kill audio amp at minimum. If the engines less sound, the audio amp can be replaced. With proper speaker put it. I would never cut speaker frame on a 50mm round speaker to get it down to 45mm. At a minimum your damaging cone area. G
Thanks again G for the reply not sure what to do yet.Chuck
Could you use a 4 ohm speaker with a 12 ohm resistor placed in series on one speaker lead?
I guess i don't know that answer
You could, but it would be very low volume as 3/4 of your sound is being turned into heat in the resistor.
Thanks G I really liked that 2" speaker for Sound when I had it wire tied on I just didn't want to Modify cutting off mounting posts at bottom of fuel tank housing that would have left cut speaker lower and speaker magnet not coming in contact with frame Hind site on my part, Smaller 40 or 45mm flat would probably done better I just thought 2'' 16 ohm cut down might last and sound more like orig. and since I already had speaker it was worth try but I botched it Thanks for replies.[Quiet sitting on siding waiting repairs] Chuck
