20-21586-1 proto 3 santa fe diesel from 2022- can it replace my proto 1 premier a warbonnet unit from about year 2000. I am concerned if its the same coupler and connection wire. my other older a b b b units are not powered . this new proto 3 warbonnet a unit might be a quick way to replace my proto 1 a unit
Depends on what you're doing. If you're just coupling it up to the non-powered units, it should work fine. If you're trying to plug-connect it, it won't work as the unit is self-contained without a tethering system. MTH went to all powered A-units around 2001 as I recall and ran tethers through everything. Even if your B-units and non-powered A-unit have tethers, you don't need to connect them; you'll just lose the powered coupler and lights on the trailing A-unit.
