I have a MTH Santa Fe 2-10-4 (20-3056-1) with a PS2/5v operating system. The original speaker is suffering from poor sound and corrosion and flaking, so I removed it. There are a number of different speakers listed on the MTH parts site for this engine, but the exact same speaker is out of stock.

Would any of these speakers be a suitable replacement?

This is the bad speaker and the old battery that was in the tender…

Should definitely only use a 16Ω speaker to replace the original 16Ω.  With the original being 5 Watts, I suggest finding a similarly rated one.  The 16Ω 2Watt pictured upper left would work, if it fits, but may blow because it's not rated for the same power as the original.

If someone else doesn't suggest a better option, I'll look for one later.

What diameter and depth is the original?

It’s the 45 mm diameter, maybe @ 10mm front to back…

?  It says 50?  Measure diameter.  Is it 50mm.  There are 16 ohm 50mm speakers out there.  .5 or up watt will work.  Heck some of the MTH early speakers were .25W.  G

Yes, 50mm 16 ohm 5 watt.

What is the issue as far as acceptable parameters as far as wattage and Ohms? The replacement speakers on the MTH parts list are all over the place when it comes to their specs. I heard the wrong wattage can damage the sound board, but I am totally ignorant about these things…
