I have a mind to track down and buy one of the new challengers. I am particularly interested in one with the smoke deflectors to make it different form my existing 2 engines, Can anyone tell me which model numbers have the deflectors please?
From what I found on here I had assumed it was all the Up models but I tracked one down at a dealer only to be told theirs did not have smoke deflectors - I am confused!
Living the UK doesn’t help either!!

Mike - two methods that I use:
1 - You can go to Lionel's website and go to "Support" - this will enable you to search for Challenger, and take a look at the exploded loco and its parts. Some of the photos are the same, regardless of the road name, so be aware. They're not wrong, but deflectors/no deflectors may not cause 2 photos to be taken.
2 - also on the site, there is an "Archived Items" (or some such) that will let you look around. This may help.
(Also, cruise eBay - clues my be there.)
I can tell you for sure that 6-82695 (3977) (Greyhound) has smoke deflectors as I own that Engine.
I own the UP 3989 and it has the deflectors as well.
Thanks for the info guys. I was looking at 3989 but the dealer said no deflectors - strange.

Incidentally, are those deflectors removable?
Yes, there are screws, I think two on each side holding the deflectors to the engine. They are a little hard to get to, but you can do it if your careful.
