Catalog has been out a while. I placed my order the other day. I'm getting the red 261E in O and the Strasburg #6 and passenger cars in Std.
What did you go for?

Steve,
My toy train budget for the remainder of 2015 is shot or already spoken for. So no big-ticket items for me in this catalog. I may order the two Standard Gauge 4010 tank cars. That's it for now. If dealers order "extra" items for inventory and stuff is still around next year, I may spring for the Lehigh Valley passenger set and loco in mid-2016. But I can't afford the $2K this year, if that set arrives off the boat in Nov/Dec 2015 or even Jan 2016. No way!!! Too much stuff always arrives at year-end... every year.

I'm interested in the standard gauge LIRR caboose. Who is taking pre-orders??? Lenny
two-tone Brown state baggage car.
Marx Mercury Copper Queen set.
I went in for the NYC American Flyer Piper. I have a complete set of the 6 Rich Art / Varney & Sirus (?) Presidential cars that "needed" a more exciting prime mover.
Pre-orders have been very good. Most people seem to be interested in the Milwaukee Road No. 256 set, the red 261E, several of the O gauge cars with postwar trucks, Standard Gauge AF Lehigh Valley set and AF New York Central freight set. The new tooled freight cars seem to be selling slowly. Not good news if we want more future offerings.
We are still taking pre-orders for this catalog and will continue to honor these prices as long as product is available. Unlike other dealers, we don't play games with pricing and deliver with top-notch customer service.
I thought long and hard about the Milwaukee Road 256 and passenger cars, but that's an awful lot of money, I'm running low on storage space, and I've had some major demands on the bank account recently. I still might get one, but I might wait for it to show up on the secondary market.
Might order the 514R in Robin Hood Beer (I have just about everything Robin Hood in both 0 and Standard Gauge) and/or one of the locomotive wheel flats.
Are they serious about the delivery dates? They are talking about this November for the Milwaukee Road 256 set and a lot of other things. That means it would have to be on the water in less than a month. I've never seen items from a new catalog arrive that fast.
I'll be sitting this one out.

I'm still a relative newbie in the Standard Gauge tinplate world. But I was under the impression that these items were "unofficially" BTO. Perhaps they're more of a "produced in limited quantities" style production the way O-Gauge was about 5-10 years ago. I still recall a time when Lionel delivered their "Giant" O-scale locomotives (w/whistle-steam) a couple of weeks BEFORE the catalog featuring them was released. Those were the days!
So I guess anything is possible with delivery dates for items in this catalog if production has already been started on some items. For that reason, I held off on big purchases this time in hopes that some product from this catalog may still be in the supply chain when funds are more plentiful in 2016.

Nada. Yet another underwhelming LCT catalog.

I liked the covered gondola's too, especially the Lionel Trains version. but cannot bring myself to pay 149.95 for them. Ordered the 200 SERIES GE Lamps car, only because I worked for them for 30 years.

It has been so long since I ordered anything new from MTH, I wasn't even paying attention. Then my catalog came from JR Junction Trains and I had a look. I really like the idea of the "new tooling" 200 freight cars. Granted they are really only variations on existing cars, that's actually okay with me to maintain some continuity.
McCoy and others made 2- and 3-dome tank cars in Standard Gauge; others may have made a handful of covered gondolas, covered hoppers, the wheel car, or a bay window caboose in Standard Gauge, but they are scaaarce and hard to find.
So I ordered a sampling of these new freight cars, in the more subdued heralds; looks like fun. My experience with MTH has not been great over the years; nevertheless, good for them, for actually trying something new.

Chris,
Thanks for posting all of the pics, and yes all of my red items have green for the Christmas theme, so it is refreshing to see the engine with the black instead.
Enjoy!

Well after several weeks of contemplation and hesitation, I finally took the plunge and placed my preorder tonight for the yellow/gray/red Milwaukee Road 381 Bipolar and six matching Milwaukee Road State Cars including:
11-2038-1 Milwaukee Road Super 381
11-40099 Milwaukee Road 3-car State Car set
11-40100 Milwaukee Road Solarium State Car
11-40101 Milwaukee Road Coach State Car
11-40102 Milwaukee Road Baggage State Car
I now have my fingers crossed hoping that MTH get enough orders for these items to produce them.

I've got to get an email to JR Junction and place my order, but here it is:
Lionel Lines Celebration Series 212 Covered gondola
Lionel Lines Celebration Series 211 Flat w/wheels
PRR 514 Box car
PRR 216 Covered Hopper
PRR 212 Covered Gondola
Things are tight right now, so no major purchases. If that were not the case, there is so much more I would order.
two-tone Brown state baggage car.
Jim, I was thinking of this too. I have 5 state cars in 2-toned brown, but not this baggage car. I saw one go on ebay for around $550 a couple of months ago.
online it's easy to find an inflation calculator. in 1940, the average O scale freight car was in the $2.50 to $3.75 range. given the 1580% inflation since, that works out to between $42 and $63 in 2015 currency.
i do think some of the freight cars in the 2015 catalog are quite nice, but not for $80.
cheers...gary

The car is nice. I picked one up on E-Bay for $350 last year. I have the 3 extra cars Michigan,New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I just do not know why they made a 2nd Pennsylvania car.
