When it becomes available I might like to get a Legacy ACL SW7 switch engine. Anyone know if I could run it with my MTH z-1000 transformer and will it make its sounds and crew talk? Thanks.

Yes, it will run fine in conventional. Assuming it has Bluetooth, you should be able to get most, if not all, Legacy features out of it.
If you just run straight conventional (as do I) the crew talk is triggered by quick whistle/bell button presses. The only "major" feature most will use regularly not accessible is the electrocouplers.
Also it will not smoke for long - when you refill it with smoke fluid several times eventually the cab lights will start blinking indicating fluid reaching the electronics. Legacy locos need Legacy or TMCC to smoke for long. At least that has been my experience.
