Well, I'm stumped. I have an early 2245, and someone made it into a dummy years ago via removal of the motor and horn. I have found replacement pieces, but I have scarcely any idea about where the wires are supposed to go. The only info I've found talks about the vertical motor 2245s, which is of no help to me. If anyone has another horiz. motor 2245, I'd much appreciate it if you could perhaps sketch a wiring diagram for me or point me in the right direction on where to find one. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me resurrect this engine!

So it doesn't matter between the two? I have that diagram, and it calls out that it doesn't discuss the horizontal models on it. That's what has me confused.
Both the horizontal and vertical motors are wired the same, as they are electrically identical.

Correct, from an electronic wiring perspective, it doesn't matter - a brush is a brush, a field is a field.
For other details discussed elsewhere in the document such as part numbers and part lists and such, there are definite distinct differences between vertical and horizontal motors.
As Bmoran and Larry have said, there is no difference electrically between the horizontal and vertical motors' wiring. Here's a link to Olsen's service documents showing the horizontal motor wiring for the SF dual, horizontal motored 2300 series F-3's:
An important consideration not yet mentioned is that these are series wound motors. The field and armature are always in series. The E-unit changes the relationship between the armature and field but they are still in series. Typically with Lionel the field is grounded (with Marx motors the opposite is true) and which brush connects to the other side of the field is changed by the E-unit to change direction.
