I've been playing with Lionel trains for around 60 years but until recently mostly the lower end stuff.  I recently acquired a very nice 225E and a 226E.  Both engines need marker jewels.  Upon searching the parts web sites I discovered both red and green jewels.

So . .  my question is did these engines come with all green jewels, all red jewels, or one red and one green?   If they came with one red and one green what was the arrangement.  Same as airplanes (green on the right side and red on the left side - with respect to the pilot / engineer)?

Thanks,

Gene

Both locomotives, as stated above, had green jewels.  But remember, in the pre and post war era Lionel was making toys with no idea that many, many years later they would be collectors' items.  If it was approaching Christmas season and there was a rush to get 225E's and 226E's to the dealers and suddenly they ran out of green jewels, production would substitute red without giving it a second thought.  So if you have pre or post war era trains with the wrong color jewels it doesn't mean  they are not original.
