I have an MTH Santa Fe F-3 ABA PS 2 engine (20-20046-1) that has worked well since new about 4 years ago. It was assigned to shelf duty for the past month.

I put it back on the track today, connected the cables between the cars, and the 2nd A unit starts running when I throttled up the ZW-L to run it in DCS mode.

Both A engines are powered units, and I had the 2nd engine facing backwards and running in reverse when I last successfully ran the ABA configuration via DCS.

I disconnected and reconnected the cables between the cars – no change.

I took off the 2nd A unit (that ran when powered up) and successfully ran the AB part of it via DCS.

I put just the 2nd A unit (that ran when I powered up) on the track and it only runs backward. I powered the throttle on and off and the engine does NOT cycle through the conventional neutral / forward / neutral / reverse cycle.

I have no other engines or rolling stock on the track that the train is on.

There have been no changes to the layout – same ZW-L, same TIU, no changes to wiring.

Other DCS engines and a DCS lash up ran successfully on the same track before and after this happened to the SF F-3. TMCC and Legacy engines worked correctly on the same track via a Cab-2 both before and after this happened.

I took the body off and there were no obvious wires disconnected or unsoldered. I re-seated all the connections that I could see and got the same results separately, and as part of the ABA configuration.

Has anyone seen this before, or do you have any ideas on what to try next?
