I had the same issue with a 3236 and other Ives locos years ago. What I ended up doing was going to a store that sold electric motors and parts, buying a set of motor brushes that were close in size, and modifying them to fit inside the holders. Time consuming, yep! But I lucked out and got a set of brushes that fit and work better that the originals.
Call up MTH as they have reproduced some Ives Trains & they may be able to help you out on this. Good Luck!
I was surprised that Lionel brushes wouldn't work. What was the problem ?? I have several Ives I would like to re-do so any info would help. thanks
Bob Hannon is the only one who has them. The ones he sells come with springs as well. MTH will not help, they just used modified Lionel motors. hannon@trainrefs.com is his email. Good luck, if it is a late "wide motor" version it will quickly become your best runner!
I have a wide motor one with a stamped frame that runs but I have a non-runner with a cast frame that I want to get back running. I picked it up with three passenger car some years ago at a show. it was relatively cheap. all my Ives are good runners o and Standard. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the info guys. I sent Bob Hannon an email, and he promptly responded. I'm supposed to speak with him today, but I'm thinking he may only rework complete motors and not sell the brushes separately. I'm hoping I'm wrong on this. This has become one heck of a quest trying to get replacements.
The Ives motor I have is pretty rough so having him rework it could work.I saw on his website that he is in Maryland-not too far. Will contact him. Thanks for the info.
Bob made 2 armature's for me several years ago for my twin # 38 engines. He was a great guy to deal with and they run as good as a # 38 can run . He sold me the red insulation paper as well in a small roll when I rebuilt the motors.
Good luck,
Glenn
i send all my ives major repairs to him.
They run absolutely fantastic when you get them back....probably better than when they rolled out of the Ives factory.
I plan to contact him about rebuildin my Ives motor-get it done right. Thanks for the info.
