I'm in the process of building a fastrack layout that will include a platform on a siding for my 36621 milk car.  My original plan was to use a Power Max Plus 40 W transformer to power the siding that has the operating track on it.  I just tried a test run with the Power Max transformer using just the operating track connected to a terminal track (no other track connected).  The milk guy would not come out the door when I pushed the unload button.  I then tried hooking up my KW transformer to the terminal track and the guy came out but seemed pretty sluggish.

So I'm guessing that some/most of my problems are that my milk car needs some maintenance/lubrication, but got me wondering if a 40W transformer is big enough to operate a milk car or not?  Do I need to rethink my layout or get a larger transformer for that siding?

That's iffy on the 40w, it should, but it depends on the other draws too.

Your milk car is slower acting than the early ones too.

It also takes easier to move milk cans, without the magnets. This is one item I like to use t-9 teflon dry-lube spray on. Grease can slow it down used heavily, or in the wrong places.

Thanks Adriatic and Rob,

There wouldn't be much extra draw except perhaps a couple lights on engine and/or caboose while unloading.

Yes the green light started to flash almost right after pressing the unload button on the controller.

I will test out my 1010 transformer on it to see how that goes.  If OK I may just pickup a small PW transformer for that.  I think the Fastrack operating track can be wired for a dedicated power supply (not track powered)?
