I have opened, and ran, two of my CP E8A units.

Strange thing. When I took them out of their boxes, each had one cab door stuck fully open.

I could not get them closed. As soon as I began to loosen the screws holding the shells to the chassis, the doors sprang shut.

I can not figure out how this could have happened? It seems inconceivable it could have happened in shipping.

Not a "problem." But it seems bizarre.

Anyone else have theirs come like this?

One of mine had the cb door stuck open. it gets hung up on the step inside the cab. I used a dental pick type hook tool to pull it shut

I noticed one of the doors on my two CP models had the same issue.  Easy to fix though.

BTW, as an FYI for those of you who may not plan to run your locomotives much right away, both my CP A-units came with the 9-volt battery  already installed in the battery compartment (to prevent Railsounds drop-outs).  So if your models will see extended time on the display shelf (or in storage) while that dream-layout is getting built, you may want to remove the battery.  Just sayin'...

Scott,

Absolutely love my Southern.  Thank you for the individual email replies to my questions and requests as well.  I could ask this question via email, but since it may be of general interest to all the buyers, I'll ask publically.

Is there an AUX(number) soft key that will turn off the A-unit's interior cab light?  I didn't see one in the manual and I'd prefer not to shotgun numbers guessing and screw something up.

In Matt's video above of his Burlington, you can easily see the bright interior LED which, IMHO, distracts from the head lamps and number board lighting.

Thanks,

Bryan

No Bryan the interior lights are wired directly to the center roller. I always take mine out. I don't drive with my dome light on. There is no control to turn them off.

If you don't use the smoke unit, you could wire the light to the smoke control on the ERR board to allow on/off control.

Got it.  Thanks.

Tom,

I was really just trying to show the paint scheme I want in Frisco. That's just one of the best pictures to show the paint scheme I could find. I realize the E8's were numbered 2006-2022. The E7's #2000-2005 were re shopped around 1950 to match the new E8's as the picture above shows.

Mth is doing the 60's paint version of the Frisco E8 again but that's not the paint scheme I want.

Santa Fe Train No.93, the West Texas Express, eases up to a Stop and Proceed block signal behind (Sunset) E8m 82L. It's a test. The Road Foreman of Engines has attached a shunt to the rail, to cause the signal to display a red aspect. Engineer Wallace "Machine Gun" White is agitated about the unplanned stop and its effect on the schedule. Wally will have the train flying as soon as he passes the next signal, which displays a green aspect.

Picked up my E8s yesterday, a few photos are attached...

Brought the units to Port Jervis today, and somehow couldn't quite capture the majesty... The MTH colors on their Erie units come a lot closer to matching what is in Port Jervis today, but the 3rd Rail is a lot closer to the colors used on the NS Heritage Unit, which given the effort NS went, I'd say is an accurate reflection of the documented colors used... Just can't win.

The twin headlights are all wrong in both upper and lower. The lower light housing should be side by side white headlights, the upper light housing should be white mars on top with red on bottom.

Hey RootbeerRail:  I see you have a 3rd Rail PRR E8.  How did you get to the program run switch?
