I just picked up a 3rd Rail Q2 but it is missing the aftercooler and platform assembly from the boiler front. Does anyone have a decent picture of it and how it attaches?

I emailed 3rd Rail but I've yet to receive a response. I also emailed MTH parts to see if they had boiler front assemblies for their Q2.

I may opt to fabricate my own since PSC has two different style aftercoolers. Photos of the 3rd Rail Q2 boiler front detached from the shell would be mightily appreciated!

Thanks guys for the quick response!

Charlie, that's the item in question, thanks much for the shots. Looks like there's nothing under the platform/behind the grate. The PSC part comes with the piping according to the catalog picture. Not sure how fancy I want to get reconstructing this piece. I might just do it out of styrene.

I've got two holes in the boiler front so I am thinking there are two nubs that go in from the back of the platform.

Original equipment speakers out of early MTH steam locomotive models were 16 Ohm, 5 Watt and 45mm diameter. We just tried to replace the speaker on an MTH Great Northern R-2, 2-8-8-2, and the "replacement" speaker from MTH is now 50mm in diameter, just like the one in the eBay ad. Naturally the 50mm was to big to even fit in the huge 2-8-8-2s tender!

It seems that the 45mm diameter speakers are no longer available. Concerning installing a   different Ohm and Watt rated speaker into an application that originally had a 16 Ohm, 5Watt speaker may also be a problem.

I am trying to stick with 2" dia. so I don't have to hog out the tender shell rails.

Not sure what the stock Lionel RS power supply/amp can put out but I am thinking it should do two 8ohm speakers in parallel. Edit: looking over some of the parts on the Lionel service site, it looks like Lionel uses 16ohm speakers when using the dual speaker setup.

I am going to run the Lionel T1 sounds when I get them. I am using the Lionel m/b from the 1st issue TMCC PRR Atlantic, nice little package.
