Don't know if I'm in the right area however I have a MTH 4-6-0 with PS1 that won't move. Ran it for awhile on Sunday and shut if off to run other engines. When I started it back up instead of the 2 bells that usually ring It had 2 clanks like it was in the freight mode. Looking at the manual it looks like it's locked in neutral. So I went through the unlocking instructions and still did the same. Took the tender off and the engine just sits, all the lights and smoke still work. Any suggestions

2 clanks or 3? Sounds like a fault. Is the battery a new one and full charged? If you power up and get 3 clanks, that is a specific fault and requires the Make PS chip to fix the software glitch. G
2 clanks. A friend of mine states I might have to have it reset with a MTH transformer and I have a ZW.
The battery is new and fully charged as far as I know, the sounds are loud and clear.
Clanking is sign of a software conflict. You can test battery by powering up. After start up, turn off transformer and see that it plays complete shutdown sounds. If not, the battery, wiring or circuit are not functioning and can be part of your issue.
You should be able to reset with ZW if post war. Follow instructions in manual and do a reset 18. Do you get the reset sounds when you do? G
I don't believe feature 18 will unlock a directional lock. It may help a engine that refuses to leave neutral. If a PS-1 is lock in a directional state there are no dings on start up. Just sounds, To unlock you have to hold down the whistle button until you hear a whistle blast and immediately cut power... It's been so long since I've done it you may want to dig out the manual for a directional lock,( neutral/ forward/ reverse.)
Refusing to leave neutral and locked in neutral are 2 different things..
feature reset 18 will reset back to factory defaults. It should clear the locked position.I have never had any luck on resetting with a zw but mth programmable transformer z4000 works perfectly, if you know some body that has one let them try it for you!

Good luck
Thanks, will try all of these and a friend of mine knows someone with a Z4000, he told me if I can't get it to reset he would take it over there. I have 2 4-6-0 ps1 and ps3. Looks like a Z4000 for me for Christmas. Thanks again I'll keep you posted.
I got to try a few things today and it has 3 clanks not 2 and nothing works. I even took it all apart and unplugged everything still the same. Maybe I need a new board
it has 3 clanks
All you need is MTH #50-1023 Original Proto-Sound Reset Kit. It costs $24.95 and is reusable. It contains a reset chip, chip, chip puller, rechargeable battery, and instructions to restore your PS1 engine's functionality.
This is what the engine needs.

where can you get one
MTH dealers should have it.
