I went through pictures of my Bicentennial collection looking for cars that had July 4th on them, and to my surprise only found two.  Both are traditional size cars.

Here are pictures of my two MTH American Freedom Train steamers, the T-1 and the GS4.  Maybe someday one of the manufacturers will make a T&P 2-10-4 and release one in #610's AFT scheme.  Then I'll have all three steamers that pulled the AFT

this is a special train for me. The Berk I bought off a good friend several years ago. Took it apart to give the shell a good cleaning. It has it's share of nick, but runs great, smokes better than any other Postwar steamer I have. The tender is my first scratch building project I did (and it shows up close). The passenger cars my recently passed Uncle Jim found in a house about to be torn down.

and the 2055 pulls some PRR varnish.

Happy 4th all!

Well I pulled my back out yesterday so I had to take the day off from repainting the breezeway wear the layout is and will be. So I went to Walmart picked up a lawn chair and sat next to the tracks for a few hours today. And I am sure the Police wear checking me out as he sat across from wear I was.  . Then he came around to my side of the tracks and we waved to each other.   OK  hear are some photos from today.   Enjoy     OH  there is a photo of one of our forum sponcers  MENARDS.          And then my Cats get to appear Today.

I'm now holding PTC responsible for my UP passenger car lust!  It all started with purchasing some UP passenger cars from him a year ago, now I have 90 different UP cars. Guess we have good taste, like this one which I can't get enough of:

The Weaver FEF-1 project will loose the large 'pizza cutter flanges' this week and will receive some new parts.  Left is Weaver, right are the new wheels I'm building trucks for now:

I thank all of you for showing of all the patriotic train displays. All of my cars are in plastic 12 gal crates and boxes so they do not get messed up while I am building the  new layout. To all I wish a very HAPPY FOURTH!

Hello Bob, good to hear from you. I was hoping to see you and old Howie. We will be seeing you after December (retiring)

I hope you treat yourself and come to the next York and then come on down to Virginia and run some trains.

CJB [Christine J. Braden] Custom Painting and Designs painted RMT (formerly K-Line) streamliners to match my 2348 Minneapolis & St. Louis GP9. Here is the red, white and blue set running on Loose Ties Model Railroad Club layout in Columbia Mall north of Bloomsburg, PA. Like the PRR position light signals, the catenary works.

We miss you out here, John. Happy 4th.

Here's a patriotic consist. Unfortunately, I won't be able to duplicate it until I fix the pilots on the SD90 units since somebody now has my hi-rail UP4141 and the new one has Kadees.

"The summer of 1970 finds a set of Kansas City & Gulf F's sit idling in the yard at the West Bottoms of Kansas City waiting for clearance. Once cleared, the pair will soon be trundling off to the Santa Fe yard to retrieve a transfer inbound to the KC&G. The tired and faded lead unit is the "class unit" for the KC&G's F unit fleet, and the effects of years of minimal maintenance and general neglect of the bankruptcy is clearly shown. However, hope is in sight as is evidenced by the recently shopped F7 323 trailing behind the tired old warrior. Perhaps the "reorganization" is going to help after all."

NOTE: The above models are leftover from my last HO layout, dismantled in 1998. They are sitting on the incomplete and soon to be dismantled small room shelf layout. I haven't decided whether to reuse any/all of the KC&G motive power for my upcoming larger n' expanded "KC Lines" layout based on the West Bottoms industrial district of KC. At this point, I intend to keep the motive power on the upcoming "KC Lines" layout all prototype... but I may relent and run some KC&G power, too!  Time will tell.

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Here is my most recent engine purchase:

I have been wanting this model for a long time.  The T1 version of the Freedom Train was the first steamer that I ever saw running when it came through my home town on July 6, 1976.  My dad took us to the tracks and we put a set of 1976 coins on the track for it to run over (I still have those coins).  I had seen hundreds of diesels by that time, and was never impressed by any of them.  This, however left an incredible impression and lit the fire (love of trains) in my boiler.

And while on the subject, picked up this 3rd Rail beauty last year:

AFT5

And some (but nowhere near all) other RWB from my collection:

The GG1 that was....

CR GG1 Bicentennial-2

and the GG1 that wasn't.

PRR GG1 Bicentennial 002

A lot of folks do not like the Conrail GG1 Bicentennial paint scheme, but I think its pretty neat.  It definitely stood out.  The fantasy PRR scheme is also nice; most folks like this one better.  I've always wondered what paint scheme the PRR would have used if it was still around in 1976.

Hope you have a happy, and safe, 4th of July.
