6-19824 Target Launcher car alternate targets?

I've got the 6-19824 Target Launcher Car. It's a fun operating car and the kids love it. Only thing is the target balloons don't last very long. I'm wondering if anyone has found an alternate target? I tried a ping pong ball which was too small and a styrofoam ball from the craft store but that was too heavy.

I use water baloons. They are cheap and bright colors. Check where they sell summer toys.
