I have a mpc coaling station that has a cam motor. I can't get the bucket to go up & down. The motor works & the dump works, but thats it.

The belt has probably dried out. The motor is connected to the pulley via a drive belt. That mechanism is used in a lot of Lionel accessories. Belts are readily available. I don't have the part number off hand. I will have to look it up Or maybe someone will respond with the part number.
I agree. Belt is either dried out. Stretched out. Or broken. I've used elastic bands doubled up in a pinch. Key is just to not make it too tight. Brasseurs trains online sells them in a pack of 2. Unfortunately I don't have the part number right now.
I don't see where a belt would be located?
I have no idea how to open the gear box.
Here is a description of servicing a crane, which has two of these gearboxes.
There's probably an easy way but I never figured it out. I take the screws that are located on the front near the Lionel sign out which in turn loosens up the gearbox. I then remove the screws on top of the gearbox assembly. Then by manipulating twisting and a little bit of prayer, the top usually comes off. The worm gear and pulley is then visible. The belt will be there either intact or broken. You can pull the pulley and worm gear out and clean it and relube it while you're in there. They pretty much come straight out just with a little twist and pull straight up. Hope this helps.

Now I have the gear box and cam motor out, how do I get it open? I am working on it right now.
4 screws out. Small screwdriver or flat blade to pry on the end without the tab. The tab is a little tricky in my experience to undo.

Use just a thin film of Lucas Red 'N' Tacky #2. Clean out as much of the old grease as you can.
As I said. Try brasseurs trains online. They sell the belts in sets of 2. Cheap. Buy extras! Then sit back and enjoy your hard work and wait for the next time you have to do it all over again! LOL.
I emailed Brasseur Trains. Do any of you have Lionel's phone number for there part's dept? Who know's they might have one.
I had a dried out belt. It had a bad kink where it went around the small drive pulley. I put the belt in oil for a week to soften up. Then dried it off, reinstalled and it's been working ever since.
I got the belt from Brasseur Trains. It's on the way to me. Thanks all for your help.
