HI, Could someone please tell the best way to remove the 397-M16 coupling on the end of the armature shaft. I am changing to a dual slotted shaft. Thank you!

Using a pinion gear puller would be the proper way to remove the drive coupling.
A simple tool is here, and a better one, sold by The Train Tender, is here.

thanks Larry, I. See if Jeff is still up.
I installed the new slotted armature P/N 8606-112 last night. There is a day and night difference in regard to the performance of this 783 Hudson. Lower voltage start and better performance through the voltage settings. Completely better performing engine.

Thanks for this tip; I just finished a major upgrade on m 783 Hudson, which included replacing the horribly inadequate smoke unit with a spare MTH PS1 I had laying around. I also replaced the old mighty sound of steam board with a TAS AC TMCC upgrade kit I had purchased some time back. Although it is a much better runner (and smoker) now, I may look at replacing the armature as mentioned to see if it improves the slow speed response.
Are there any other locomotives that benefit from this armature replacement?
