I was on my last leg of my trip home to Ohio from a conference in Las Vegas via Amtrak Southwest Chief and The Capital Limited when my wife texted that a package from Patrick's Trains had arrived and was I expecting anything??  Well, to my great joy and surprise, the MTH Railking Bigboy with UP passenger cars had I arrived....A set I preordered in May 2011.   I was beginning to think it would never be made.  As usual the engine runs and sound great on my layout which is purely conventional.   I had purchased the Lionel version several years ago at York and although the detail is outstanding, there is a paucity of features for someone operating on a  conventional layout.

See You in York!

Wonderful.  I know you are happy with you RK Big Boy.  I've thought of getting one.  I hope you will post pictures.  Also curious about the "paucity of features" of the Lionel version: What operating features did it lack in conventional?  That is all I run, too.  I had (still have but I wore it out to where it no longer runs well) the Lionmaster BB and its detail was a bit better than the RK,  but both ran - conventionally - just as well except the LM's cruise was really awesome.  The Lionel looked a bit better mostly because it had bigger, better looking drivers but otherwise I considered them equal in all important aspects.

Hi Lee

The Lionel Big Boy Runs rather erratically at low speed, the synchronized chuff not quite consistent and the smoke output poor.   Also there is no way to remotely fire the couplers and the passenger/freight sounds sequences in the MTH products are favorites among spectators.  I agree  that the Lionel is better detailed, ie the lighted number boards on the Front.  I included some pics
