Hi everyone,

We had a few minutes today to test some new production samples that arrived. Thought you'd like to see what we were tinkering with! Three new SD40's in SP, BN and Conrail and one of the newly cataloged Smoke Fluid Loaders. There are some pics below to share. Had to shoot the Conrail on the shelf, as the ambient lighting wasn't quite right and the blue appeared very dark in the "on track" pics. Made a couple videos too, but they need to be converted. Hopefully we'll get those posted when their done converting to mp4 format!

The SD40's are on the water now as are the smoke fluid loaders, so these should be showing up soon!

As you can see the details on these SD40's are roadname specific, as promised. The fuel tanks ride close to the rails and look AWESOME, not to mention the kinematic pilots! We sure you took the opportunity to order one or two of these, as we know you will be very happy when they arrive!

Keep in mind we shot all these on one of our engineering layouts, under fluorescent lighting, with the "good" lighting being on the opposite side of our shooting angle.

Thanks!

Mike,

Thanks again for the great review, and I have one question.  Does the Smoke Fluid Loader actually remotely operate from the Legacy Cab2, and will you please show it doing so, in your next Video Review?  If this Loader does operate correctly, it will be a great addition to my Christmas Layout.  I would put it on the 2nd level of the layout, where everyone could see it operate!

Yes the smoke fluid loader is completely controllable via the Cab2 or Cab 1. It is based off of a TAS product done by Ernie Emrich, I'm sure the spelling is incorrect. It was very limited production but was very popular.

sorry, the pilots are a deal breaker -- need them fixed with full length handrails.  look nice otherwise.

Have you been paying attention? How long have you been on Ogr? Have you ever seen a solid pilot or full length handrails on a Lionel locomotive?

No three rail locomotives from Lionel will ever have solid pilots or full length handrails!

The SD40s look fantastic!  Wow...I can't wait to see what my 2 Chessie SD40s look like.

Hopefully a 2nd run is being planned. I would love to see B&O, C&O and/or Western Maryland units. I'm not sure if my credit card would though.

Ditto!  Would love to see some WM and B&O units as well.

I've been on here for years, thanks.  I am well aware of what Lionel makes.  Perhaps they will up their game at some point (like they did with the 89' auto racks, the 21" passenger cars, etc) and build some scale diesels that aren't made for the 0-42 crowd.  These things look silly on the smaller radius curves anyhow.  They are going to extremes to make these road specific with tons of detailing, yet they nullify all of that work with those stupid swinging pilots.

My 027 Alco FAs have solid, non-swinging pilots

The benefit is that you will leave your family $$$$ for the trains that you didn't buy!

Yes you are right the gensets did but that was an exception and believe or not there one sitting above where I am typing.

If anybody wants solid pilots and full scale handrails on their diesels, it's best to go two rail or do it yourself.

They could put in a locking mechanism that would stop the pilot from swiveling, and put full-length handrails in the box, to be installed by the user as an alternative.

These would be small incremental steps that Lionel could implement affordably.  Never say never...
