On some sites, they have a place for more "general" types of discussions, that don't necessarily fit into any other forums. A lot of the threads Arnold starts, for example, are not just about "traditional toy trains", but since that's his focus, they are posted in that category. His latest, about "which trains bring you happiness", could (and do) apply to any and all types of modeling.
Perhaps a "crew lounge" category has a place here...?

FWIW, while it's an interesting concept, the "Miscellaneous" category tends to attract controversial topics that are verboten here on OGR. FWIW, I'm the admin of a different forum, and by far the most troublesome forum is our "Union Station" that allows off-topic conversations. I keep toying with the idea of eliminating that forum, but it's too ingrained in the psyche of the members, so it's a difficult decision.
My opinion is that it would be more trouble than it's worth here, if I had a vote I'd say not. Of course, I don't have a vote, so I'll just watch from the sidelines.

I get what you're all saying, I really do. I don't want a category that ends up being a place for arguments... seems there's enough of that already!

The problem, too many category's already, on some topics one never knows where to post it and if they move it you may never see it again.

Agreed. Too many categories for sure. Also there are too many stickies as well. The category thing has gotten silly with people being berated by moderation if they believe the topic fits another forum a little better.

Read what John said in his quote above. No "miscellaneous" category. In fact, for the past several months we have been discussing how to reduce and redefine the current categories. Hopefully we will have that done sometime in the next few weeks.
