When I was a young teenager, a kid upstairs from me got a train set by Gilbert American Flyer around Christmas because his parents bought some furniture at one of the local department stores.  The train set consisted of a 4-6-2 plastic silver coated Baltimore & Ohio Blue Bullet Engine.  Gilbert coated the engine with silver and it had 3 "New Haven Style" Silver Passenger Cars.  The engine had a headlight and a smoke unit.  The cars were not illuminated but they had a shiny silver finish.  The set consisted of a figure 8 style layout with a cardboard trestle set.  A small 50 watt transformer was included.  I got to set up and play with the train set as the 2 kids upstairs were too young to play with the train.  The set was made approximately 65 years ago!  Does anyone have a picture of this train set?   Sincerely yours,        railbear601

The ebay auction shows a 356 Silver bullet and two 655 silver bullet coaches which were part of the set. Railbear, the set your friend had was the uncataloged 11SP made in 1954. Your memory is quite good. The 11SP trainset had the 356 engine, three 655 coaches, a 613 Great Northern box car and a 636 depressed center flatcar with a yellow cable reel load. Also part of the set were 20 702 curve tracks, 6-700 straights, a 704 manual uncoupler, a 690 track clip for power, a 790 Trainorama scenic backdrop and the 747 cardboard trestle set. The transformer included was a #(1 1/2) 50W.

Today this is not a common set and it is rare to find one with the original set box and all the accessories. In 1954 Gilbert was making all knuckle coupler sets so the 11SP and some other uncataloged sets were put together and offered to stores as a promotion to get rid of leftover link coupler items.
