Just found out that MRC Sounders are in again.  This version has SD-45 and MP-15 sounds, so good for those K-line switchers and probably any of the turbo EMD locos built from the 1960's through the 1980's.  The volume should be louder - Frank said it was a software change.  The remote control is also in stock.  To get the OGR Forum price you must contact Frank direct at rrtech@modelrectifier.com or call him at 732-225-0964.  He also said if these sell, then they will offer more types of locos.

Unfortunately the price of the sound board has gone up like everything from China, but the remote is still at the old price.  (Both are still a lot cheaper than any other).

I'm getting one for my MP-15 and maybe more for my MPC SD-18s.

If you aren't familiar with these... they have a simple 2 wire hook up and give you several choices of horn sound.  The remote also gives you coupling, air release and dynamic brake sounds.

Is there anyway you can do a video of it after you get it installed.
I'd love to see how loud the new one is . I bought some of the old ones and couldn't get enough volume out of them.

The video keystone posted makes it sound nice and loud but when you actually hear it it sounds like it's under a pillow,it's that quiet.

It sounds better when the body shell is on, same as other systems.  You can activate the horn and bell with the transformer buttons, you don't need the remote for that.  However, the remote will access the other sounds such as coupling, air release, and dynamic braking - and it will make it easier to do the intial programming.  The remote is only $12 so I think it is worth it.

David, I can try but it would be hard to judge from a video.  I can put it side by side with the older board and see what the difference is, but I am away from home now, on my ship, (I am a ship's officer) and won't be home again until mid-June.  Hopefully someone will do a comparism before then but if not, I'll try to.  As you may remember, I liked the quieter sound, but I can still do a comparison when I get back.

NOT true. The horn & bell are activated by the Xformer's bell/whistle buttons. the remote activates setting functions on the sound board. The remote is needed to activate the dynamic brake sounds & other sounds such as coupling, air release, and  it will make it easier to do the intial programming..

Thanks John,
Hope some one will do a comparison . I'd like everyone to have the option of being able to turn the sound down But I'd like to hear the sounds when I have 2 other command equipped engine running.

Smooth Sea's John.

Thanks James

Nick -
For Forum members only price, have to be ordered directly from Frank - I believe this one is $25.  Remote is $12.  Shipping is extra.  See my earlier post for contact info.  BTW, Stewart Wilson in Durham has one. See his post above.

Obviously I'm looking in the wrong place.

Dave,

you'll have to contact Frank directly to get these at the above price.  The PN is 0001815B for the board and 0001824 for the remote.  I don't know if these are listed on the MRC website.

John

MRC's web site is hard to use. For the sounder to work like most of us want it to you need the remote .The only place you'll see it mentioned is in the instructions for the sounder.
If you did buy them from the website you'd miss out on the discount Frank gives OGR members anyway.
Simple rrtech@modelrectifier.com  or call him at 732-225-0964.
I would like to see someone compare a new one against an old one for a volume comparison.

David

The Williams TrueBlast Horn kits retail for $35.00 and they include a full speaker baffle. How does the new AC Sounder run stack up price wise?

you are really making an apples to oranges comparison as the Ac sounder is more than just a horn sound board. IT has bells and horns for various locos plus the diesel roar that is needed in "dummy units"
