Is it possible to add a fixed voltage wire to a pre-war Lionel 711 switch? Diagram is always helpful?

Anything is possible. but the easiest way to do it is to use a later switch machine or a 022 switch machine(they're the same).
Otherwise, it's just a matter of unsoldering the common wire to the solenoids from the center rail connection and connecting it instead to your fixed voltage source... easily reversible for restoration if desired.
That's brilliant. It didn't occur to me to use a newer switch machine.
