Possible battery is low, try letting it sit on track with power for 15 min or so then do your add. If that doesn't work it becomes a Barry question.
I see this a lot. If there's a lash-up in the used engine's already programmed address, the system can't fix it. It's a software bug.
I've been getting around it by finding that engine's address with the loader program, and then making room for it in the remote by moving the lash-up. I believe you could move the lash-ups to high numbers when you make them, so this bug doesn't pop up so much.
Are you using a programming track or equivalent? No other engines should be receiving power when adding if you want to avoid issues. It'll eventually bite you.
This single tip is the biggest thing posted to make your life easier. I won't argue with others about that, as it is just what works for me, period.
Since about the only time you see ENGINE ERROR is when this bug strikes, that's almost certainly the problem.
if it's a new engine and there's a lashup in ID#1, that's the one to change. Otherwise, just change the ID#s of all the lashups. That should set things right.
Thanks guys ill give the advice a try. The battery does seem weak. I don't even get the clicking sound of the rely when first powering up. Plan on putting a bcr in to replace battery.
Well, That could be a hardware fault. Does the engine start up and run in conventional? G
You can remove the battery as a test. Sometimes a PS/2 locomotive won't start up properly with a dead battery, but it will start with no battery.
I had the same problem as the original poster while trying to load a new PS-2 engine with DCS version 4.1 software. I had never seen this problem before so did a quick search here and after reading this thread I moved a lash-up I had at Addr 6 to Addr 60 and then the new engine added with no problems. I didn't think it would work because my lash-up was not at Addr 1 but it did. Thanks guys!
Cheers,
Glenn
