Just curious if anyone has done it, and did it remove the paint. What is the best decal lifter on the market?

Microsol may work if there is no clear coat over the decal which is unlikely for a GDD model.
If its aluminum, Goof Off
If its plastic, I'd try solvaset soaked on a paper towel laid over the lettering first, then move on to ELO and on up the chain of nasty stuff. Some of those cars may not be decals but some kind of pad printing.
I was not aware that Golden Gate Depot passenger equipment used decals. I thought everything was pad printed, i.e. paint.
GGD uses decals. There have been a few pad printed projects, but not many. They are top film decals which is why you don't see the film. It comes off after the decal is applied.
I haven't removed lettering on any of mine, but a decent eraser might do the job too. Just a thought. Solvaset will certainly do the job too.

Hey Jonathan:
Thanks for responding to the question and that is interesting information. Can you briefly describe what "Top film decals" are how they are different/better than the tradition water slide decals we are use to?
Thanks.
Charlie

Are the stripes on the P70 coaches also decals? They sure look painted.
I would love to remove the stripes for a more 40s - 50s look.
