AF Fastrack??

That looks like it would wear a groove in Gilbert plastic wheels over time.  I wish they could have used a steel flyer style rail.  

I've run traditional Flyer on SHS S-Trax, which has the exact same rail profile and height, with no ill effects.

Same here. I have used the similar SHS track with the solid nickel silver code 138 rail for years with no wear issues. Based on my favorable experience with the SHS sectional track running Gilbert, AM, SHS, and new Lionel S the permanent layout I am having built is with the new MTH flex track. If you prefer the appearance and convenience of S Fastrack I see no reason to avoid using it.

Does the Lionel ES44AC and SD70ACe ride the AF track well. I bought some Gargraves S Scale track for testing. It appears to have a lot play with the wheel sets on the Lionel engines. So the engines sway side to side. I do not want much play in the wheels on the track. I hope I explained this well enough!  

I guess I need to buy some AF track for testing!

I have 2 ES44AC engines and one SD70. They run flawlessly on SHS sectional track. I have not tried them on Gilbert sectional track or Gargraves flex. I have run Lionel S steam engines on Gilbert track with no issues. The minor swaying on my layout was caused by uneven track. It is really hard to get the Gilbert track straight, even and level.

I have asked... if you wish to use a circle of S Fasttrack around the Christmas tree... how do you power it?  Power leads can only attach to straight sections!  A design shortcoming, in my opinion.  

I just moved the terminals to a curve section after gluing a piece of styrene as a spacer and drilled some pilot holes. I agree, though, it is a design flaw.
