What alternative is there for bellows material? I have tried several failed attempts.

I don't have an answer for you, but this takes me back to 1948 when my dad was trying to repair my 1947 Pennsy K-5. I remember that we went to a lot of train stores around the Chicago area, but he never did find the part needed. I didn't find out until 1990 that Flyer improved that unit with a metal cylinder and piston.

You can get a replacement material from PortLines hobbies here. Look down about 19 entries on that page.
Here's a clinic from Portlines that talks all about smoke unit and bellows repair.

The oil cloth piece is available from parts vendors. It is a tedeous process to get it installed correctly. Alternatively, if you want better smoker at an additional cost, you can buy the cylinder conversion kit from the same vendors. It's a bit more work to install, but it's easier to install, and when done, performance is greatly enhanced.

There was a factory conversion to a piston and cylinder, like the ones used in the smoke-in-boiler models.
THANK YOU gentlemen. I appreciate your help and have ordered the portlines material. Merry Christmas.
YOU CAN ALSO USED A CHEAP LATEX GLOVE AND CUT IT. BELEIVE OR NOT. I HAVE USED A LATEX GLOVE AND OT WORKS. USE GOOP TO GLUE IT TOGETHER.
