Little backstory:

Earlier this year there were 2 of the MTH Railking "Southern X253" (30-7002F) steel cupola cabooses on eBay. Due to my hesitation in seeing if they were prototypical or not, I missed out on both (come to find out, they are prototypical). I have searched high and low with no results. Google lead me to the OGR forums with several for sale, and I'd wanted to join anyway, so I finally paid up and joined, only to find the ones in the FS/FT portion of the forum were long gone. Oh well, it happens! Got a notification from eBay almost daily, at 7pm or so, on new items matching "MTH Southern Caboose" criteria, only to find tons of the offset cupola cabooses and wide vision cabooses, neither of which I wanted. Then....last Friday night, one was posted for sale. BIN for $29 but make offer was available.

I offered $23, figured he would meet me at $25 or so.

Then, decided to just go ahead and buy it at $29, because it wasn't worth it to me to save a few bucks.

Added it to my cart and was met with "This item is no longer available for purchase..." and my heart sank. Immediate disappointment ensued. Then.....

I got a notification that my $23 offer had been accepted. It arrived today in pristine condition, and was packed so well you could have thrown it off the top of the Sears tower and I'm fully convinced it would have survived.

Now I know what all of you feel like when you search and search for something your heart is set on and the feeling of accomplishment and joy when you finally receive it.

This one will NOT be receiving Kadee couplers and will be left as is. cab

I say prototypical kinda loosely….its a standard Railking northeastern caboose mold, but Southern did have these in this paint scheme. X255 comes to mind. It’s got 2 windows instead of the standard 4 but the paint scheme is accurate. I guess that’s what I meant by prototypical really. It’s a great looking caboose and I’m happy to have finally found one.

plus….it was a great deal
