Can you just hook the black wire to the AIU (IN) since the uncoupler red wire is from the center rail for power from track?

If there are two wires from the FasTrack uncoupler. One has to be go to Hot and the other to Common. I'd suggest wiring to an AIU ACC port as follows:

  • Black wire to accessory transformer Hot. Do not use the track center rail as that could potentially degrade the DCS signal by passing it through the uncoupling track's magnet coil
  • Red wire to an AIU ACC port, terminal 1
  • Accessory transformer Common to AIU ACC port terminal IN.

Will the AIU read as uncoupler?

If you mean what will the description be in the AIU's accessory list, the answer is that it will be whatever you enter,
