Well, my first time custom build has begun. it is an ALCO RS-3 low nose to replicate a loco from the Detroit and Mackinac RR of Upper Michigan. This company used to bring the jet fuel to our USAF base at Wurtsmith in Oscoda, Michigan. Attached are some pictures of the locomotive I'm modeling after, the new shell and cab unit. I have to cut the high nose off probably tomorrow morning. I was able to find a slightly beat up loco to salvage the near perfect motor and drive units from. I plan on keeping the Conrail shell since it is perfect condition and will probably use it on another custom build later.
Okay,
First Question:
The tape that is separating/insulating the wires from each other and the motor casing seen in the attached picture: Does it have to be a specific type of tape or can regular masking tape suffice?
Second Question:
Is the medium CA/super glue the best bet for fastening the brass stanchions and for the sides and ends?
Third Question:
What is the best pin vise and micro bit set for o-scale model railroading?
I will have many other pictures as it progresses.
NOTE: I am also open for suggestions, recommendations, cross feed commentary involving what you all have experienced while custom building.
Thank you in advance for any and all comments/advice.
