Hi, unless I've been dreaming, I recall some of you experts out there posting on a way of setting up all-wheel electrical pickups for AF Atlantic tenders, evidently connected to locos.
Is this actually possible ? Suggestions are welcome.
If Albertstrains is listening somewhere, I think he was in on this topic, along with Rustytrack...
I don't want to press the subject unduly and am hoping to get some advice, be it pro or con.. Maybe I'm completely in left field on this... and I could have it all wrong.
Well, in olden days I would have suggested SHS Flyer conversion wheels for the caboose, but I don't know if MTH will rerelases them. Even then, you'd have to fabricate some sort of pick up for the insulated wheels.
I suppose the next best thing would be to replace the trucks with American Models 4 wheel tender trucks (4th ones down.) They pick up on both sides. I don't know how well the wheelsts would fit in the Flyer trucks.
Actually, I am trying to solve the problem of my AF Atlantic locos losing power pickup when going through an old AF turnout. Apart from cleaning track and weels etc., I cannot find another way of adressing this issue.
He has advertised 4 wheel pick up for AF tenders. Don't know if he sells them to the public or if he installs them. Has quite an inventory for upgrading older AF.

I used some for an Atlantic I was converting to "scale". I had to fabricate a new tender frame (which was not difficult), and it seems to work really well. I doubt the wheelsets would fit into Flyer truck frames,as I believe the Flyer axles are longer...
