I've replaced brushes, caps, fingers but engine will only go forward. I have been playing with adjustments on reverse unit off and on for a couple of days now and now I need some advice! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the engine runs forward every time the transformer powers the track there are three possibilities; one, the lock lever protruding from the engine shell has the RU locked in forward; two, the RU is unlocked but not cycling (drum not rotating); three, the engine is wired incorrectly.
If the RU is cycling and the engine runs forward but sits in neutral for the other three steps of the RU then the fingers need to be adjusted. Replacement fingers are too long and must be bent when installed in order to make proper contact with the brass strips on the drum.
The above are all correct . If the two wires on the bottom of the e-unit are switched it would cause this issue.

I double checked wiring and it is correct and have been playing with the fingers . It will go forward and when I recycle for reverse it won't reverse then I recycle again and it will run forward again. I'll keep playing with it. Thank you for the feed back!

Still need to reverse the 2 bottom wires & try it. Worth a try ?

Hi, you need to verify wiring of e unit you have to have it wired wrong see schematic below!

It might be worth trying a different transformer, though I am not sure if it would prove much.
Hi, a different transformer won't make any difference if wiring is incorrect! he needs to address wiring diagram schematic I sent!

Do not use the wiring diagram of a 21085 for a 300! The 21085 has a two position reverse unit mounted on the back of the motor and uses the engine chassis as one of the conductors. The correct diagram is the one in the lower left posted above.
back at it today, the wiring diagram I'm using is the one for the 300, the one on the lower post. I will let everyone know when I get it running like. Thanks everyone for all your help?
I finally got it, I replaced top fingers and adjusted lower fingers so it now goes both ways. Thanks again for all your help!
Great! Pleased to hear it is now running. Those replacement fingers can be a real pain to get bent just right.
