I was thinking that the American Flyer President's Special Cars (preferably in two tone blue) would pair nicely with the Lionel 392E. Has anyone matched these up together? How does it look? The 392E's red spoke wheels seem to be a good match to the President's Special red wheels. Would be great to see photos if anyone can share!

The 392E looks really good with the long AF cars. I just happen to have the 392e double headed with a 390e pulling the President's Special train on the layout right now. I will take pictures and post them later.
Thanks, MR FIXIT - looking forward to it!
It's such a long train that it is hard to get good pictures, but here you are! Both engines were converted to PS2, so running them together is easy. The 392E has perfect proportions to run with the President's Special train. The AF passenger cars (and the AF bodied Ives Olympian) are my favorites. The 392E would also look great with the red President's Special train.

I have the red Presidents special and I have run the passenger cars with my 385E and they look good. Flyer standard"Wide" gauge cars seem to lend themselves better with most engine because of there proportions Passenger or freight cars.
Looks GREAT - thanks for posting!
Hi Randy, long time no see. I use the gray 392 with those passenger cars. Stunning.

Hi Chris. I remember seeing your post of the red President's Special when you first got it. If I recall, you were having lighting problems. Were you able to get that fixed? These sure are great looking cars! Bet they look real nice with a Brass Piper in front, as well.
Hi Steve. Nice to hear from you! Looks like a total refresh of your layout is happening. Have to stop by and check it out! How is the B&O 384 set treating you?

Hi Randy. Well yes and no! It seams when I went back to standard gauge tubular track the conductivity is better. Not perfect but the cars are beautiful so it's not a deal breaker for me.
Looks good. I have a Flyer coupler for my 392E that can be changed in seconds.
Those cars look good with a lot of steamers. My number one choice is the Flyer Golden State. Then again I like a 390E over a 400E with Blue Comet cars.
wow, great idea,,,,,i have seveal 392's and both red and blue president cars,,,,also how bout a grey or black 392 with the dark blue flying colonel !,suppost to be rainy on fri,,,,let me tinker and get back to ya on that one

The B&O Set still looks and runs great. Come by Fullerton RR Days at the end of the month and say hello.

Nice video, BTW! I like the patches of "snow" clinging to roofs and on the ground. Also like the vintage style cloth wiring. Hope to get to RR Days this year. Looks like a lot of participation between Amtrak, Disneyland RR & BNSF!

Fantastic! Hard to pick a favorite, as they all look great! Thanks for posting!
Great topic... and one that got me thinking: I recently became the owner of a Lionel Classics 400E and was considering pairing it up with the 11-40099 Milwaukee Road State Car Set. From the catalog image, it's hard to tell if the roofs are black or dark grey. Anyone have this set and is willing to share a photo or two?
These are all great--real nice-looking hybrid trains. Here's another set of non-Lionel cars behind a 392E, the PRR heavyweights by John Daniel.
