Amtrak Bi-Level Commuter Cars

Amtrak used these former C&NW commuter cars in Chicago. So far, based on a video, I know they were used on the Hiawatha Service. What other trains did they pull, why were they purchased by Amtrak, and how long were they used by Amtrak?
