15TH YORK DCS USER GROUP MEETING AT THE WHITE ROSE RESTAURANT!

Make your plans now to attend the 15th Semi-Annual York DCS User Group Meeting!

*** NEWS FLASH - WE'RE HAVING A SPECIAL PRESENTATION YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS! ***

The meeting will be in the WHITE ROSE RESTAURANT IN THE FAIRGROUNDS on Wednesday evening, April 17th, 2013. This location allows over 100 attendees to be comfortable during dinner and the presentations.

I’ll be your host for the meeting along with Marty Fitzhenry.

Altland House will cater our meeting at The White Rose Restaurant the same way that they do for lunch during the TCA York Train Meet itself. Food choices will be made cafeteria-style as you enter the restaurant and will include:

A choice of four hot entrées (turkey, meatloaf, pulled pork, and a vegetarian entrée) for approx. $10 each

A selection of sandwiches for approx. $7 each

• Cakes, pies, cookies, and chips

Soft drinks, coffee, tea, and bottled water.

Please note - payment is cash only.

Whether you're contemplating installing MTH's DCS on your layout or you are already a DCS user, this is your opportunity to meet with other DCS enthusiasts over dinner to swap ideas and discuss the absolute best way to run trains!

As in the past, MTH executive management will be in attendance to discuss the company’s plans for DCS, and to answer all your questions about DCS, PS2/PS3 engines or anything else MTH.

Also, MTH will be providing copies of their new 2013 Volume II O Gauge Catalog at the meeting! Be among the first to get your copy!

If you're already operating DCS and desire more information, or you're just interested in learning more about DCS from some of the OGR Forum's resident experts (mostly self proclaimed ), this is the place to be!

If any of you were kind enough to donate to my retirement fund by purchasing a copy of The DCS O Gauge Companion, I’ll be available to autograph your CD or printed copy of the book.

The White Rose Restaurant is located in the Fairgrounds adjacent to the Red Hall. The best Fairgrounds entrance to use to get to the White Rose Restaurant is the one on Carlisle Avenue. When you enter the Fairgrounds through the gate on Carlisle Avenue, turn left immediately and follow the road. The White Rose Restaurant will be on your left. If you get to the Black Hall you went too far.

Please refer to the map below if you’re not familiar with the Fairgrounds.

 White Rose Restaurant

We've reserved the White Rose Restaurant so that we can have privacy and handle a larger crowd. Although the restaurant holds more than 100 people, make sure to reserve your place as soon as possible - the group gets larger every meeting!

If you're planning to attend, please be certain to post your intention on this thread so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate head count. Alternatively you can instead E-mail me directly using the address in my profile.

During dinner, we’ll be conducting “Ask a Beta Tester!” We’ll have several DCS beta testers and other DCS experts on hand who will endeavor to answer all of your DCS operational questions. This can include how a particular DCS feature or function works, how to do something in DCS, problem resolution, or anything else. The feedback we’ve gotten from past meetings was that this informal Q&A session is extremely well-received and is something that you won’t want to miss, so plan to be there during dinner!

Please note the following schedule of events:

• 6:00 – 7:00 Several of us will be upgrading TIUs and remotes to the latest DCS software release (DCS 4.20), and we will also be doing remote cloning for those of you who need it. There will be no charge for this service! So if you're a bit skittish about upgrading your own DCS software, or cloning your remotes, this is a great opportunity to both get it done for you and to learn how easy it is to do it yourself in the future. Make sure that you have fresh batteries in your remotes!

• 6:15 – 7:15 - The cafeteria line will be open and you may purchase dinner.

• 7:00 – 8:00 - Dinner and “Ask a Beta Tester!” You'll have a chance to ask questions of yours truly, Marty Fitzhenry, and any of the other beta testers and other experts that are present. With enough of us answering questions, we might even have an opportunity to eat dinner ourselves!

• 8:00 – ??? MTH will provide us with a look into their product roadmap and answer questions from the OGR Forum about DCS, PS2, PS3 and their other products.

If you have any questions for MTH please submit them in advance to make sure that they get asked and answered, and to allow time for MTH to conduct any necessary research. You may either post questions here or E-mail them to the address in my profile.

The cut-off date for questions is the end of the day, Friday, April 5th so that MTH has enough time to prepare a response.

Ben Fioriello (bluelinec4) has graciously volunteered to once again take notes and prepare a summary of the meeting for posting on the OGR Forum.

Upgrading DCS sets and cloning of remotes will be done by Marty Fitzhenry and Bob Snyder.

Again, if you're planning to attend, please be certain to post your intention on this thread so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate head count. Alternatively you can instead E-mail me directly using the address in my profile.

Also, it would be a good idea if everyone who attends wears their York ID "badge" to introduce themselves.

I look forward to meeting with as many of you as can be there for an evening of camaraderie, great food, great conversation, great information, and lots of fun!

Chris,

We're looking forward to seeing you and Linda.

Regarding your question, I'm assuming that you mean the following:

When running conventional with the remote via the variable output jack when will we have the ability to set the starting voltage at 1 volt rather than  the current 5 volts? It does make a difference with certain engines.

Is that correct?

Barry:

Not actually DCS but related;

Can you ask when more of the sound files will be posted for review on the website?

Some are posted but more are missing than are present at last check.

I would love to be able to preview the sound sets instead of downloading all of them and trying set after set to find what I'm after.

For Instance, I have 2 Big Boys with Freight sounds. They have totally different PSA sound sets, one is a flag stop, the other is cutting cars from the consist.

Neither one is available for preview on the website for those interested in swapping up sound sets.

And we STILL want a sound editor !
