Another 'runaway' auction of Lionel E6's?

The Lionel E6 is a very well done locomotive. Understandably, there appears to be a strong demand when models become available. You mention you'd never seen them sell "for much over $500" before watching these recent auctions. That may have been the case before but it's been awhile since the E6 has been issued so that price of $500, give or take, may now represent a very good deal for someone who wants an E6 set. Not everything on the secondary market has to sell for pennies on the dollar as some folks tend to believe.

Yep, its near the holidays, The E-6's will be back in Legacy and I will wait for them.

They are nice units but this is way too much for them.

If I had the coin there are other engines on my list that I would purchase before laying out this kind of money for these... 

Hmmm wonder if me and my dad should sell our Lionel Southern and Santa Fe E6.

All I know is, I wish I had some TMCC E6's to sell.

Don't complain too much - these prices make your Southern E6s on the Buy and Sell board a great bargin.

Don't I know it.   I'm sure there are days when some folks here hope I disappear, but it ain't happening.

I'd love to know how you get to be #1, is it really enough to be a blabbermouth?

I didn't know the Southern E6 was such a hot item.

All LB&SCR & Southern locomotives are hot items. But the E2 is much more famous. 

I have a MTH Premier E6 ABA in Rock Island colors...new in box, never run. Won it from an auction house located in California. Its been some years now and I have never come across one since. I "scour" the for-sale sites and (e)nchanted Bay on a daily basis. I guess the E8's captured the "lime light". 

The bickering here reminds me of when I was in third grade! Anyway, those locos are up past $1400!!  Fred

$2539!! Bet that sellers happy. I saw a set of Santa Fe's went for over $4000 a couple of days ago. Wish I had a few, the club and convention cars I have listed are not selling.

Wow. These are the type of sales the general public takes note of and thinks all Lionel trains are worth a fortune. I was asked at a family party today by someone what I thought their great uncles train was worth. They had no idea what kind it was or shape or age or even if it was a steam or diesel. They seemed a tad upset that I could not give a price. Apparently they told the great uncle I was into trains and he would get a price from me. I pointed out if he shoots me details in an email I would be glad to help. I got the feeling there will be no email. Sheesh. 

That'll buy almost any locomotive that Lionel sells, even the top-end stuff.   I wish I could sell some of mine for those kinds of prices.
