Matt,
I would definitely check out G&G Model Shop located in "the Village" right next to Rice University campus. The address is 2522 Times Blvd Houston, TX 77005-3225. It's been about ten years since I went to medical school in Houston, so I don't know how the shop is now, but back then it was a scratch builder's paradise. The shop had all kinds of building shapes and different plastic sheets representing building materials because they catered to the architecture students at Rice. I saw scratch building stuff there that I have never seen since. Have a great time!

Ya go down to the beach while the weather is still warm.

Matt,
G&G would be a nice stop. Here is the rest of the places that have O-gauge in Houston.

Wow - that is a great store that brings back many memories. I used to shop there when I was in high school and then at Rice and for about ten years after graduating - until I moved aw2ay from Texas.
My middle son said he was in G&G only last week looking at modeling supplies and told me over the weekend that it was still "the best I've seen."
G&G does not have the train stuff as in the 1970's, but for building materials and stuff for senery and diaramas, it is THE place to go in Houston.
I just spent a month working in Baytown. I visited all the stores in the Houston area and the only one worth visiting IMHO is Riverview trains in Angleton. Nice store, very friendly owner who is a Forum member, discounted prices and TCA members get an addtional price break!

If you do go to Riverview, DO NOT travel SH 288 during rush hours. It can become a parking lot sout of Loop 610!
Lived here for 30 yrs...still do. Take heart in what Boomer said.
If you have time on Saturday or Tuesday evening, visit the HTOS O gauge club layout located in Memorial Mall on I-10 West at Gessner. It's a permanent layout in the mall...ask directions at the mall information booth.
