I just ordered the cable (50-1032) to connect a TIU to the Legacy base, but my Legacy base is about 12' from the closest TIU. Can I extend the length of the cable by using a straight through RS232 extension cable like this.

That should work for you, though I have not tried it. There would be a limit as to how far the signal could propagate, but 10 feet or so should be no issue.

Thanks Rod. My cable arrived in the mail yesterday and it seems to work fine. I hooked everything up and was able to run a couple of my Legacy locomotives without any problem.
I've extended it 50 feet and it still worked fine.
