Nothing really appeals to me anymore except the aluminum items by K-LINE & LIONEL.  The roads that I model (MONON & CSS & SB) don't have many offerings.  When I started out in 1999 I bought just about anything, after clearing out most of those items, nothing much appeals to me.  I do know that if someone made the new NICTD interurban cars I would be interested.  I know that it will be along time if ever that manufacturers will make anymore CSS & SB offerings until then I guess I am not in a buying mood.   Anyone else feel the same way?

I have been in this game since about 1971 and have gone from carpet central at Christmas to a 24 X 20 train room and large layout.  I have filled up every shelf, drawer and track with a train so no room for more unless I sell something.  Not complaining and I am grateful for the many blessings I have had but it is just my time to downsize.  Of course there is always that train that I just can't live without but I haven't seen it lately.

Manufacturers have priced me out of even the low end stuff. I am not sure what sales projections are on some of these items but I don't understand how the "average" joe can afford to play in this field. I look through the buy/sell forum everyday looking for something "new" to buy, at least new to me. Seems most don't bother with traditional lines and since I do not have the room to load up a freight yard full of freight cars I am pretty much set/stuck with what it is.

Pretty sad when one has a hobby that they cannot get excited over once inawhile.

Good thing I have Walter and good old RMT to save the day now and then!

I usually buy something that I didn't "have to have", then someone comes out with something I really want.  So for now I'm saving my $$$ in the hopes SOMEONE comes out with a 5-car Silver Meteor passenger car set.  Of course, if I spot a USRA 2-8-2 for a great price I may have to rethink my strategy a bit.

I actually have more than I can run at one time, plus a couple of projects still ongoing, PLUS some updates to existing stuff.  There's only so many retirement dollars to go around (thankfully I get to play free golf at the course I work for).

Lee, I will not be going to York either, no desire due to the expense and distance.  It seems to me that the majority of big events happen on the east coast.  The rest of us in the Midwest get left out.

I am glad myself, my wife & son sat down and discussed how to spend our disposable dollars on trains and came to the conclusion that unless someone makes scale CSS & SB or NICTD cars we will sit on the sidelines and enjoy what we have.

We are always on the lookout for K-LINE aluminum hoppers though.

I have more than I can ever use now. Unfortunately, I am going overboard on buying die cast cars for the layouts now. I have the Steve McQueen Bullitt 1968 Mustang and the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. Bought the Rainman diorama. A whole bunch of the American Graffiti cars are piling up. And I have bought a local Corgi Worcester MA bus. Plus I am overdoing it buying travel trailers and mobile homes trying to catch up with Lee Willis's inspirational trailer park project! (even bought the flamingos) There is no hope for me. I have no self restraint. I fear that you will see me on an upcoming episode of Hoarders!!!

There are some great deals out there on the secondary (used) market right now. Maybe the time of year combined with the aging of the hobby. But many items that have been on my list for years I have gotten recently. A 6 car Williams Amtrak Bi-level set, a 5 car set of MTH Amfleet cars, a Weaver scale PRR T-1 and a good number of Weaver freight cars all well under my $20 shipped limit.

I need to stop buying and finish my room prep as I have now turned of my gas heat and can safely use solvent sealer on the walls.

I'm always finding more stuff to buy, both new and used.  Each time I check my train closet, I decide to cease buying, then I end buying another loco, and have to get a matching caboose and consist.  A couple of weeks ago, I made a long ride up to a distant LHS to pick up a Reading ore car. While there, I spotted a premier MTH Southern steam loco and tender on sale for $799.  Imagine, a premier MTH steam Proto 3.0 for $799.  Now, it is haunting me every night.  Again this was just after I decided to stop buying for the umpteenth time.

Now I am done answering Tiffany.  The last few months I been selling engines and rolling stock. because I am hooked, last year I bought losing my focus on era and Railroads. so this year, I replaced GN Weaver with an MTH GN SD24 (DCS), finshed building a  CSX(SD70Ace) Merger consist. Bought my wife her MTH SF Passenger train (40s-50s) PA1. Now the only thing I am buying are the Lionel milk cars when one comes up for the right price and lay out Improvements. But never say never because I am hooked!!!!!

She saw a Williams SF F3 at a train show last year that she liked. At the time I thought she was joking. It turned out she wasnt. An MTH SF PA1 with 60ft passenger cars popped up on E Bay so I bought it. Once I showed her how to use the DCS controler and which switch turned on the power for the sidding it parked on she was good to go..

Hello suzukovich...

Its nice to have another woman interesting in this hobby as we need more of them beside Susan Deat,Nicole, myself for change.  I am interesting in the williams shell oil tanker perhaps when the bidding is over as i dont like dealing with ebay?

Similar to what Monon Jim says at the beginning, if something specific to the GTW actually gets into production, I'd be interested. With catalogs that show (potential) products and ever increasing prices, I'll have to satisfy my buying impulses with items on the local train show tables or the OGR For Sale pages.

Not buying equipment recently nor do I plan to in the future. My modeling era ends with the end of Southern Ry and N&W steam so, the offerings from the importers that interest me are scant to none.

But I have spent considerable $$$ to upgrade some older favorite locomotives.  I am also now budgeting funds to rely on others such as Joe Fauty of Model Structures, Harry Heike and David Duhamel to fabricate structures and fronts for me.

Can no longer adequately assemble structure kits or open, repair and  modify engines myself.

I browsed the new ho-hum MTH catalog and my reaction was nil. No buying of new equipment for yours truly as nearly all of it is, as Yogi Bera said, "Deja Vu all over again."

If something new of a prototype that has not been done or is unique enough, I might be tempted, but I have been busy in the shop building a freight motor from scratch, repairing a Hornby Windup and modifying some articulated cars to run behind the Prewar AF that Owen generously made me a key for..A lot of posts are what do you want, why did it break, or general complaints and my new tactic has avoided that path so far. Not that there is anything wrong about those posts that bothers me, but it does underline why I avoid making problems for myself or getting hung up needing more of the same when I have more than enough. I do peruse whats "new" but it's the same old same old stuff with increasingly a game of musical chairs with version 18 versus version 9..while this is not a criticism of other's desires, all of this is far from lighting any burning desire to drop significant change on essentially new gimmicks rather than new models. If you are not into contemporary diesels, theres some real slim pickins unless you go the brass route and spending what it takes to acquire one piece osfstock isn't a incentive for me.
