I noticed Menards has what look like nice flatcars. Am interested in the 14.5" - they seem to have all the features their more expensive cousins have.

Yes They are very nice cars. My only complaint is the rivet for the truck that is visible on the deck, but this is easily hidden with a load.
Nice cars and made well for the money.
An excellent flatcar and can't beat the price from Menards Trains.

The rivets on wheel sets are easily covered up. I use patching material. Here's a few pics that may help. I use the back of the blade to make plank grooves. This is the shorter flat car, but I used same technique on the longer 14 1/2 in flatcars. As you can see, hardly noticeable and have stood up for over 2 years.

The only thing that concerned me with my Menards 14 1/2" flat is the slight upward bow in the body. I resolved this by placing a pipe load on the car. Bow is less noticeable and it covers the rivets. Overall, a pretty nice car for the price.
